If it is not too cold, build your shelter on high ground to keep you away from bugs. If the wind is blowing build a shelter by the trees so the wind does not blow down your shelter. Do not build your shelter in the bottom of deep valleys because at night that is where the wind will seek.
You should always gather what you find or what you have. If you have a poncho or a type of plastic sheeting then you can build several types of shelters. Items like ponchos, nylons, hammock, parachutes can serve you as shelter materials.
The best way to stay away from mosquitoes is not getting bitten. To avoid ticks and bites is doing activities in the forest, wood areas or tall grass. Wear long pants and long-sleeve T-shirts.
What do you need to sleep a bush shelter:
Sleeping bag, pillow base layer and warm thick socks, a sleeping bag. And maybe some food too.
(I was not too sure about the last one but I gave it a go)
